Safeguarding

How we keep young people safe

Safeguarding at NAV Pathways centres on creating a safe, nurturing environment where young people feel protected, understood and able to thrive. Every member of our team plays an active role in promoting wellbeing and ensuring that learners feel safe to learn, safe to talk and safe to be themselves. Our approach is rooted in strong relationships, daily connection and a culture where young people know there are trusted adults who will listen, respond and take their concerns seriously.

We maintain clear safeguarding expectations across the team, with all staff trained to recognise concerns, respond appropriately and seek support when needed. We use agreed reporting pathways to ensure that any worries about a young person are recorded promptly and followed up with care and professionalism. Our safeguarding practice is strengthened by close partnership working with home schools, families and external agencies, ensuring that support is coordinated and that young people receive the right help at the right time.

Daily check‑ins, predictable routines and ongoing risk assessments help us create a calm, structured environment where young people feel secure. Because our approach is relational and trauma‑informed, staff take time to understand each learner’s experiences and build the trust needed for them to share worries or seek help. This relational consistency is a key part of how we keep young people safe and emotionally supported.

Support for families

We recognise that safeguarding is most effective when families feel informed, included and supported. NAV Pathways offers practical, compassionate help for parents and carers, whether they need advice around attendance, wellbeing, routines, housing, finance or wider challenges affecting family life. Our team responds without judgement, taking time to understand each situation and, where appropriate, connecting families with services that can offer specialist support. Strengthening stability around the young person is always our priority, ensuring they feel held by a network of adults who care deeply about their safety and success.

NAV Pathways is committed to ensuring that every young person feels safe, valued and supported throughout their time with us.
